Albertans up to the Active Living Challenge

More than 21,000 Albertans showed their commitment to healthy lifestyles by participating in the annual Active Living Challenge Day on May 20.

Albertans were challenged to walk, swim, run or try something new for 30 minutes. Individuals, schools, businesses a nd communities from around the province participated and recorded their activities at www.provincialfitnessunit.ca.

This year, participants recorded over 2,161,000 minutes of physical activity.

Since 2002, more than 421,000 Albertans have participated in Active Living Challenge Day. Studies have shown that accumulating even small amounts of exercise throughout the day can have a positive effect on overall health.

Through the Alberta Sport, Recreation, Parks and Wildlife Foundation, the Alberta Government supports Active Living Challenge Day in partnership with the Be Fit for Life Network.
