Celebrate Family Day weekend at provincial parks

Get outdoors and explore provincial parks on Family Day weekend from February 16 to 18. To commemorate the holiday, provincial parks throughout Alberta will host fun, educational activities for the whole family.

Crimson Lake Provincial Park, 20 kilometres northwest of Rocky Mountain House, will offer snowshoeing, snow golfing, winter shelter building and winter geo-caching. Carve and paint your own snow sculpture then warm up with s’mores, hotdogs and hot chocolate around the campfire. Cypress Hills Provincial Park, 35 kilometres southeast of Medicine Hat, boasts more than 15 kilometres of track-set cross-country ski trails for both classic and skate skiing. A variety of equipment is available for rent, including kick sleds, cross-country skis and snowshoes. Amazing ice-fishing is offered at Elkwater, Spruce Coulee and Reesor Lake. Miquelon Lake Provincial Park , 31 kilometres north of Camrose, celebrates Snow Day on Sunday, February 17. A variety of family activities will be offered, including snowshoeing, skating, snow broomball and a winter scavenger hunt. Free hot chocolate will be served around a campfire. Activities run Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Moonshine Lake Provincial Park, 35 kilometres northwest of Spirit River, will host sleigh rides, snow games and a hotdog lunch. Enjoy family activities such as ice-fishing, cross-country skiing and skating. Activities run Sunday, February 17, from noon to 4 p.m.

Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park, 12 kilometres north of Lac La Biche, will host family sleigh rides, snowshoeing, skating and cross-country skiing. Celebrate a day of fun in the snow with hot dogs, chili and maple taffy. Activities run Sunday, February 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

William A. Switzer Provincial Park, 19 kilometres north of Hinton, will host an ice-fishing derby on Saturday, February 16. Celebrate Family Day weekend at Gregg Lake boat launch with ice-fishing clinics, snowshoeing, skating and cross-country skiing. Warm up with hot dogs, hot chocolate and coffee.
