Olympic Torch passes to BC

Alberta's incredible journey with the Olympic Torch officially came to an end on January 22 at Kicking Horse Pass. Minister Ady and Gordon Campbell, Premier of British Columbia were on hand to cheer on the passing of the torch against the backdrop of the majestic Canadian Rockies. Former Premier Peter Lougheed represented the last Alberta torchbearer as he lit the torch belonging to Wally Buono, BC Lions Head Coach, who ran the torch into the province of BC.

In the end, nearly 1000 torchbearers carried the Olympic Torch in Alberta in front of hundreds of thousands of enthusiastic Albertans. The torch passed through 76 communities and community celebrations were held in 18 communities. Congratulations to everyone who participated or cheered the Olympic Torch. The Olympic Torch will arrive in Vancouver on February 12 for the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
