Cross-Country Skiing

Cypress Hills, Alberta offers excellent cross-country skiing opportunities during the winter season.

Approximately 15 kilometers, in two separate areas, are groomed and track set for cross country skiing throughout the winter. Spring Creek Trail System offers a series of loops designed for the beginner or novice skier and the Spruce Coulee system offers trails for more experienced or novice skiers.

Snowshoes are available for rent through Hidden Valley Ski Hill, located in the Park. Open Wednesday through Sunday. Closed Monday and Tuesday (except over Christmas holidays). Call 403-893-3961.

Cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals are available at the Police Point Interpretive Centre (403-529-6225) in Medicine Hat.

Curling

The Curling Rink in Elkwater is Closed.

Downhill Skiing

Hidden Valley Ski Area; Open Wednesday through Sunday. Closed Monday and Tuesday (except over Christmas holidays).
Lodge opens at 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. / Lifts open from 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Ski / snowboard school, equipment rentals, pro shop, cafeteria and licensed lounge.

Ice Fishing

Elkwater Lake, Spruce Coulee reservoir, Reesor Lake allow ice fishing.  Please be sure ice is safe.  For road accessibility to Reesor and Spruce Coulee please contact the Park Office.

Ice Skating

Local outdoor skating rink adjacent to the curling rink.

Snowmobiles

Snowmobiles are not allowed in the park.

Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing in the Cypress Hills is a wonderful way to explore the Park in the winter. Throughout the Park you will find a variety of trails. We ask that you respect the track-set cross-country ski trails (Spring Creek and Spruce Coulee loops) and utilize the other available trails. Tobogganing

A toboggan hill is located south of the ski hill on highway 41.  A picnic shelter and stove is located in close proximity.

Winter Camping

Winter camping is available at Elkwater townsite and Spruce Coulee campground (walk-in tenting). Winter fees are $18.00 - $23.00/ night. Contact the Visitor Centre for more information.
