Beaver Management
Benefits| Concerns | Monitoring

"Beaver have become common residents of the Fish Creek valley since the Park was developed. Beaver have been removed when their activities have flooded park facilities or damaged trees within facility areas. Management of beaver will endeavour to strike a balance between a healthy population and protection of forest and facilities.

  • Beaver activity will be monitored annually.
  • Wiring of trees as a protective measure will continue in facility zones.
  • Beaver will be removed only when their dams or activities are endangering facilities and trees within facility zones. Removal may also be necessary to protect unique or limited habitat types (for example Heron Colony trees)."
