A special note about the Alberta Lichen Element and Tracking List – 2011 Update

The last significant update for lichens done by ACIMS was in 2000. The Alberta lichen element and tracking list presented here has been developed thanks to work done on macrolichens for the General Status of Alberta Wild Species 2010 and with the assistance of several lichen experts to update the entire element list.

This 2011 update reflects ten years of additional information and includes significant changes in the species known to occur in Alberta, their taxonomy and ranks. There remain however numerous unresolved taxonomic questions and questions on the rarity of some species. 

The list should be considered a preliminary one only, and comments and suggestions are welcomed.  

We hope to initiate additional consultations to continue to refine the list.
