2007-2008 School Year

Grade 7—Nature of Science Workshops:
Fall: Tuesday, September 11th, 2007, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Spring: Wednesday, April 9th, 2008, from 4:30 p.m to 7:00 p.m.

Grades 8—Freshwater Systems: A Case Study Workshops:
Fall: Wednesday, September 12th, 2007, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Spring: Thursday, April 24th, 2008, from 4:30 p.m to 7:00 p.m.

Grade 9—Biodiversity Workshops (Fish Creek Provincial Park only):
Fall: September 13th, 2007, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Spring: April 10th, 2008, from 4:30 p.m to 7:00 p.m.

Professional development opportunities, consultations, in-service and experiential workshops are all offered by our staff. Presentations can be custom-built to suit the needs of the participants, and may include any of the following topics:

  • How to easily bring environmental topics and issues into your outdoor and environmental education class.
  • "Tips and tricks" to leading successful outdoor field studies and environmental and outdoor education field trips. 
  • Environmental education: "what it is and how to achieve it".
  • How to lead a curriculum-based winter field study.
  • How to integrate environmental education into your studies and areas of interest.
  • Threatened species and habitat preservation: hands-on classroom resources and programs to make sense of the issues.
  • Action education: how to bring learners from awareness, to understanding, to where they can confidently take action.
  • Resources and programs to help make sense of the big issues; "climate change", "water", "biodiversity", "wildlife management", and "Parks & Protected Areas".
  • Discover environmental literacy and environmental education.

Global, Environmental and Outdoor Education Council:
Additional professional development opportunites and annual conferences are coordinated by the  Global, Environmental and Outdoor Education Council. (G.E.O.E.C.), a special council of the Alberta Teachers Association.
