Year-round Outdoor Recreation Opportunities and Accessible Accommodation

Kananaskis Country has earned a reputation of ensuring equal access to this beautiful mountain environment by people of all abilities.
 
Nestled within the scenic mountains of Peter Lougheed Provincial Park (Kananaskis Country, Alberta), the William Watson Lodge provides year-round accommodation for Albertans with disabilities as well as senior citizens of Alberta who are 65 years and older. Overlooking the beautiful Lower Kananaskis Lake, the facility is composed of a main lodge for day use, twenty-two accessible cabins, six vehicle campsites, and six walk-in tenting sites.
 
William Watson Lodge primarily serves people that may not be able to utilize the more traditional types of services found in mountainous environments. Not only does "The Lodge" provide accessible accommodation, but it also plays an integral role in the development of barrier-free outdoor facilities throughout all of Kananaskis Country. Reservations may be made up to four months in advance for persons with disabilities residing in the province of Alberta. Forms to determine eligibility may be obtained from William Watson Lodge.
 
Summer, long weekends and holidays are prime booking times at the Lodge. Space permitting, disabled persons from out of province and Alberta seniors are also welcome. Bookings for these people can be made up to two months in advance.
In the summer, whether it is for rest and relaxation or adventure, Lodge guests can enjoy barrier-free hiking trails, picnic sites, fishing areas, and numerous interpretive programs. Winter guests can enjoy the great outdoors on one of the cross-country trails which have been double tracked to assist persons with disabilities and visual impairments. For those needing an adrenaline rush, downhill skiing is available nearby. Some adapted equipment is available at the Lodge.
 
William Watson Lodge is open and enjoyed year-round.
