Evan-Thomas Provincial Recreation Area

The Evan-Thomas Provincial Recreation Area conveys a sense of accessible wilderness to visitors. You will discover spectacular mountain vistas and may see moose, elk, bear, and bighorn sheep.

There are hundreds of kilometres of summer trails for mountain biking, hiking, and horse back riding. Backpackers and hikers can access Spray Valley Provincial Park, Bow Valley Wildland Provincial Park, and Elbow-Sheep Wildland Provincial Park from the Evan-Thomas area trails.

You can fish in streams and ponds for rainbow and cutthroat trout. Golfers will enjoy the 36 holes of a world-class golfing at the Kananaskis Country Golf Course. If you want to go for a horseback ride or experience a real western dinner try Boundary Ranch.

Explore the Evan-Thomas area in winter. Try the cross-country skiing at Ribbon Creek or the downhill slopes at Nakiska that have challenged the world’s best in the 1988 Winter Olympics.
Campers will discover first class sites at Mount Kidd Recreational Vehicle Campground. You’ll find a camper store, tennis courts, and hot tubs available for your extra camping pleasure at Mount Kidd. The summer interpretive programs in the campground amphitheatre are fun for the entire family, make certain to attend.

If you would like to experience camping in a teepee, try Sundance Lodges. Also available for your Kananaskis Valley visit, the Ribbon Creek Hostel offers a real Canadian mountain overnight. If you prefer a more primitive vehicle access camping experience, Eau Claire campground along the Kananaskis River is the place for you.

The Kananaskis Village offers you luxurious hotels, fine restaurants, and shops. The Village Centre has a post office, grocery store, shops, and a comfortable meeting room. Enjoy the village pond in summer and try skating in the winter. The Rim Trail starting from the hotels allows you to take an easy walk to some spectacular valley overlooks. Summer hiking and winter cross-country trails are easily accesses from the village site.
