Alberta Recreation Survey
The 2004 Alberta Recreation Survey
Albertans are choosing walking for pleasure, gardening and cultural activities such as visiting museums or going to live theatre to keep their minds and bodies healthy and active, according to the 2004 Alberta Recreation Survey.
In Spring 2004, 3,217 Alberta households responded to 16 questions about recreational activities they took part in over the past 12 months. Other activities most frequently chosen included doing a craft or hobby; attending sports events; bicycling; attending fairs and festivals; swimming; playing video, computer or electronic games; and overnight camping.
The survey was conducted by Alberta Community Development in partnership with the Cities of Calgary, Edmonton and Lethbridge. The survey was designed to determine participation rates in leisure and recreational activities, favourite activities, reasons for participating, barriers to participation, volunteer involvement, benefits of recreation, demographic information and more.
The results are summarized in the reports below.
